The objective of the campaign is to ignite a revival of the pride and resiliency that united America after her day of despair and tragedy. Showcase the flag that flew over the scene and provide a venue for actual first responders to tell their stories in a grassroots campaign.
- Present American flags that flew over the recovery efforts in New York, the battlefields in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the highest peaks around the world to events throughout the country – accompanied by the heroes who were there.
- Raise awareness of the heroism of the first responders who dealt with the aftermath of the attack on the World Trade Center towers on 9/11.
- Stimulate grass-roots charitable donations benefiting first responders and veterans (police, firefighters, military) at the community level.
- Reignite the sense of national unity that followed the attacks.
This campaign will begin at Ground Zero on September 11th, 2010 by raising several commemorative US Flags over the fallen World Trade Center towers on a tour of the United States for one year, returning it to its final resting place at the National 9/11 Museum on the 10-year anniversary of the attack. The Post 911 Foundation will proudly display these flags at a series of local events throughout the country to inspire and remind Americans of the patriotism and pride that brought the nation together after the attacks. Each event will spearhead local fundraising campaigns to support the heroic men and women who have served our country with honor and are now in need of our assistance.
The Follow the Flag Campaign allows Americans to follow the American Flag that flew from the World Trade Center on its historic journey back to Ground Zero. It is a campaign to raise awareness and inspire assistance for all of our American heroes. Through our activities, the foundation believes the nation will re-capture the spirit of national unity found in the post 9/11 moment and come together once again to promote peace, pride and prosperity.
