The Post 911 Foundation, The Special Forces Motorcycle club, in conjunction with Lefty Brothers Motorcycles is raising enough funds to complete a custom motorcycle and sidecar that will be donated to the wounded Green Beret, Romulo Romy Camargo.
In September of 2008, Romy was shot in the neck during a firefight in the mountains of Afghanistan. The bullet shattered his C-3 vertebrate which left him paralyzed from the shoulders down. Romy, a Coral Springs native currently resides and recovers at the James A. Haley VA Medical Center in Tampa Florida. With his wife Gabriela and their 2-year-old son Andress, they have become mentors, inspiring other wounded soldiers and their families who are just beginning the healing recovery process. Despite his paralysis, Romy wants to ride again.
Lefty Brothers Motorcycles, owned by fellow Green Beret and long time friend Enrique “Izzy” Izquierdo is donating his spare time to design and build a custom motorcycle for Romy. “As soon as I left the hospital” Izzy said “I told my wife Barb, that I was going to build a bike to be dedicated to Romy”. Izzy is designing a one of a kind custom bobber frame with an attached custom sidecar which Romy and wheelchair can ride in. The bikes progress will be documented by video which can be viewed at: www.leftybroscycles.com
The funds are needed to complete the custom motorcycle, side cart, front end, engine, transmission, wheels, custom paint and more. The end goal is to grant Romy’s wish to ride into Daytona with the Special Forces Motor Cycle Club during the upcoming Bike Week in Daytona, March 2010.
